Get more traffic, get more sales? Not necessarily!
We hear it all the time – get more traffic, get more customers – The more traffic, the more sales…right?
Not necessarily.
Shock horror – i know. I’m going against everything every marketing person has probably ever told you, but it’s true.
Think of it this way…
You play for the Real Madrid CF and you’re playing in the finals, at a huge 100,000 capacity stadium. It’s packed to the rim, every seat taken. But only about 5% of the fans, are actually fans. The rest don’t know how they ended up there. They thought they were going to a concert, or got lost on the way to the movies. Something tells me that crowd is not going to go off, and that atmosphere is going to be kind of lack lustre.
Let’s apply that to your website – you cast a really wide net, and funnel as much traffic onto your website as possible. You’re going to have more people, so that automatically means more sales right? Wrong…all that’s happened is you’ve grabbed some people who just got lost on the way to the movies, and are most likely not your ideal customers.
